The statutory accident insurance system is one of Germany's largest non-governmental providers of education and training. Each year, it delivers qualification measures to almost 400,000 persons, particularly employers and management staff, OSH professionals, safety officers, teaching staff, trainers, company physicians, specialist medical personnel and other disseminators at plant level, and also to its own staff, such as labour inspectors, rehabilitation case managers, accident case managers and management staff.

The statutory accident insurance institutions in Germany and their umbrella association maintain 37 training institutions, the facilities of which reflect the latest developments in adult education. The objective is to enable what has been learnt to be transferred to day-to-day work processes.

Initial and further training is offered by the statutory accident insurance institutions on either a sector-specific or cross-sector basis:

  • Cross-sector initial and further training provided by the DGUV
  • Sector-specific initial and further training provided by the German statutory accident insurance institutions

First-aid training is provided in Germany by other organizations on behalf of the statutory accident insurance institutions. The statutory accident insurance institutions are responsible for quality assurance in this case.
